Welcome to Weave a Rowe
“Weaving a story.”
“Following a thread.”
“Lives woven together.”
These are a few common phrases using weaving as a metaphor for life. Weaving, and textiles at large, are embedded in our language from a time when the process of creating cloth was a part of our everyday lives. I believe that when we come back to those processes and start to understand the deeper implications of these metaphors, we can have a deeper appreciation of the connections in our lives.
In 2013, I was enrolled in my first year as a fashion design student at Kent State University where I had hoped to merge my interests in art and textiles. However, I was beginning to feel it was not the right pathway for me. At the end of the semester my fabrics class took a field trip to the Textile Arts Studio and I felt the tug on my heart that this was where I was supposed to be. The following fall, I switched my major and spent every moment I could in the weaving studio. Deep exploration of the weaving process revealed its meditative qualities, and provided me a meaningful setting to reflect on life.

Since I began weaving, my practice has expanded into facilitation and community-based projects. In my facilitated workshops, people learn how to weave alongside prompts for reflection using the process as a metaphor. Each participant takes home a unique piece of art that holds a deeper meaning for this moment in their lives. My community based work has included projects like weaving with discarded items to discuss sustainability; weaving together on large looms as a way of relationship building; and combining weaving and writing to create a communal poem. Weaving, to me, is a lifelong exploration and I’d be so delighted for you to join me.
